Sojourner Truth was not only an abolitionist, but she was also a very well known women's rights activist in her time. Truth was born into slavery and was sold for the first time when she was 9 years old for $100. She struggled most of her early life as being a slave, and being forced to marry someone and have children with him. She finally escaped slavery in 1826 with her youngest daughter, and spent some time living in New York City with her son. Sojourner Truth is also one of the first black women to bring a white man to court and be successful with it. She worked as a housekeeper for a few years, and started to meet other abolitionists who inspired her to speak publicly about her views on slavery. Her main concern was that if black men got their freedom, white and black women would suffer even more which is what made her more passionate about the cause.
I think Sojourner Truth is a very inspirational person because of how hard she fought for her basic human rights after she escaped slavery. She had so many setbacks in her life but it didn't stop her from working hard and fighting for what she believed in. I also admire how she was a feminist because it was a very brave thing to be so open about during that time. Equal rights was a very controversial topic, but it didn't stop her from speaking out and working to make a change in society. She played an important role in society and helped with the movement for men and women to have equal rights.
